ok, round two of awkward profiling.  today, christopher august butler.

i’ve known chris for about a year now, and he’s quickly become a favorite of mine.  when i first met him, i was immediately jealous of his constant sweet stubble.  it’s really rather remarkable.  i once told him i’d never actually seen his face clean shaven, then he did it…and i didn’t notice.  case and point, i’m a tool.  moving on, chris is the vice president of a nifty little company called newfangled web developers – i’ve probably asked him a dozen times what all that entails, and i still don’t know exactly what he does there.  regardless, he works with a pretty fun cast of characters, and his recreations of events from the office are fan favorites.  over the past few years, chris has taken to working out, and now his arms are the size of my head.

so, why profile chirs?  because in short, he’s pretty brilliant.  he’s one of the most creatively talented people i know.  he’s a filmmaker, designer, painter, sweet notebook keeper, songwriter, guitarist, drummer, and pink v-neck owner.  he keeps a healthy love of all things buckminster fuller (think geodesic dome – epcot center), philosophy, and sci-fi novels.  i’ve found he likes robots too, partially because they’re cool; partially because he might be one.  as i read over this, i’m thinking of more and more sweet things that make chris awesome and interesting to read about, but i’ll just say this.  chris is one of the most genuine and honest people i know.  i’m very thankful that our paths crossed here, especially at this point in our lives.  in just the short time i’ve known him, he’s been a wonderful help to me through some fairly awful times, be it actually talking through my issue, or simply dodging it completely in hopes of having fun.  he’s become a very dear friend and has made this place much more home for me.

recently, chris had a birthday.  for his birthday, he received a fairly sizable gift card to costco.  he used it to make a sandwich.

we ended the night with some fireworks, a few headstands, and obviously a few episodes of the OC.  not too bad for a weeknight.

Keith, and light electronic repair…

when i started this blog, i had no idea what i wanted it to be…and at this point i still don’t know.  what i do know is that i want to have photography involved, and parts of my life too.  so, in hopes to bridge the two i’ve decided to start doing profiles of people in my  life.  i spent some good time with a dear friend today, so i figured i’d start with him.

ladies and gentleman, dr. keith mccoy.

i had the pleasure of being keith’s roommate for the first year and a half i lived here in NC.  my first impression?  keith is the cleanest and most organized person i know.  his house is immaculate, all the way down to the silverware drawer.  everything has its place, and it’s always a logical location.  upon getting to know him, i found keith to be very warm and inviting, and beautifully practical and honest, and to say cynical would be putting it lightly.  i love this about him, because it takes any guess work out of me reading his moods.  keith works as a psychiatrist, so, needless to say, he’s a listener.  i love taking advantage of this because he’s willing to let me talk about my mess of a life, and willing to ask hard questions, as well as give necessary advice – even if i don’t want to follow it immediately, i would say it’s almost always the best course of action in the end.  there’s talk of him moving soon, i will miss him dearly.

on the lighter side of keith, he loves going for long runs, fancy import beer (who doesn’t…), as well as scrubs and 30 rock.  he will always say yes to an evening sitting outside at milltown with good friends and good conversation.  loathes paris hilton, loves eminem.  i took some pictures of keith today, they look like this -

i love this picture.  it’s blurry, it’s grainy, but he moved and i did my best to get it.  it ended up as one of my favorites.

later in the day, keith and i had to try to figure out why his tv just stopped working.  here are some photos from that.  turns out it was a tiny fuse.  $8 fix.  but i’d never seen a tv with with back taken off.  they’re kind of complex.  but very fun to look at.  less to be shocked by.

this is not my first blog.  this is not my first attempt to get the mess that rolls around in my head and on paper and in music and in model form and in life onto a blog.  this blog will inevitably fail and stop being updated.  but i’m not there yet.  today, there’s hope for a sweet blog, and this is me starting it.  tonight, i enjoy my windows down, gin and tonics, and the occasional discussion about free will, and how it’s not really free at all.

i’m aware that blogs lead people to believe that they live more meaningful lives than they truly do…so in response, and in an attempt to be preemptive, i will say this – this blog is not for you.  it’s mine and is for me.  i’m happy to share it with you, because i want you here as long as you want to be, but by no means do i think this blog will add any significance to my or your life.  it’s just for kicks.  so let’s go, already.
